Digitizing the Torso
Take 1
In this video, I work on the torso.
Download Large Video - 42 minutes, 293 MB, 480 x 360.
Download Small Video - 42 minutes, 136 MB, 320 x 240.
Here is a list of the topics covered:
- Rotating parts around custom pivot points
- How Bricksmith uses the previous brick for the next brick location and rotation
Addendum for take 1
Around 38'50" I spend the rest of the movie unsuccessfully looking for some bricks (wedge). Other than learning how hard it can be to find a brick if you don't know its name or category, I don't know what you will gain by watching the last 4 minutes (I could edit it out, but I decided not to do any post processing on this to get it out faster).
Jim DeVona pointed out something I can't believe I forgot: "in many cases you can actually find the part number printed on the bottom of the brick. In this case the part number is 4855. So if you don't know the canonical name for a part, you can just type that number into the Bricksmith search field (it works with part numbers as well as descriptions)." Duh! I can't believe I forgot that!
Take 2
In this shorter video, I finish the model so that it is all ready to be converted.
Download Large Video - 20 minutes, 87 MB, 480 x 360.
Download Small Video - 20 minutes, 42 MB, 320 x 240.
Here is a list of the topics covered:
- The missing part names...
- Name the main submodel "scene" and put the model in it ("mighty_mite.ldr")
- Add ".ldr" to all submodels
- Add crosshairs "handles" so I can find the points in POV-Ray after converting it
- Adding a crosshair for the minifig
Addendum for take 2
The audio level is low again because of the laptop mic... (duh)
