Moth II

This model was originally an Ldraw file and I converted it to POV-Ray using Anton Raves' converter.

This uses a simple method of exploding. Each explosion is different because I use different points for the explosion location. That is, the bricks will move different directions and velocities depending on where the explosion point is located, which can be anywhere.

Here is how I do it. When creating the model, instead of using the normal translate function, I have a special macro that takes the translation vector (or matrix) normally given to the translate function. The macro translates each brick to the proper location. If there is an explosion clock, it compares the explosion point with the location of the brick and pushes it away from the explosion point.

I created the motion blur with targa averager. Each frame is an average of 30 renders, 6000 total. You can see some unblurred frames in the slow motion clips. Each frame took about 6 to 7 minutes to render without the explosion and over 30 minutes with the explosion. I used Xgrid and a Cocoa app I wrote to distribute the POV-Ray render.
